brush strokes not as smooth as sai(with sufficient hardware)

Wed Mar 07, 2018 10:17 pm

hey, i need some help
im trying to use krita solely in my draws, but brush strokes, especially quick ones, look worse than in SAI's, mostly in edges
here's a small comparison

with different settings (edit: i forgot to add one with delay option on in the stabilizer in krita

)
this mostly affects sketches and lineart, but it also makes coloring a bit worse, also makes drawing fur/grass much harder
im not sure if it's my settings or anything else, the brush in krita is the default one preset just with flow/opacity off
im using huion h610 pro
windows 10
4790k
gtx 970
if you need any other info ill do what i can

I don't know about other software, but I do have nice and smooth strokes on Krita, depending obviously in the size of the canvas I'm using, could be from a tiny shaky (when doing huge lines on big canvas) to supper smooth (small canvas + small lines), my settings for the stabilizer are similar to yours, except I have 100 for distance and no delay active, but also very important, I don't have instant preview on, as in my very own case, it prevents me from doing smooth strokes, I don't know, may be not your case but its worth to try. Also for painting/coloring using any smoothing is a bit counterproductive, I wouldn't recommend it. Lastly you can try changing the pen/tablet curve behavior on the settings.

Hi Ghostlyboo, it's normal ; Krita doesn't support (yet) the feature of smoothing "end of line" and "start of line" ( the spiky shape you see at the end of your line in Paint-tool-sai. Manga-studio does it too ). It's a smoothing assistance invisible to the user and it simulate 0 to user-pressure at the line start, and user-pressure to 0 at line ending. With that the line and painting stroke are more elegant and beautiful.
With Krita, you need to train your hand to get the skill for real :-) (I hope this feature will come one day inside the Krita stabilizer).

changing the pressure curve helped a bit, they look a bit better now but also the brush feels a bit heavier,i can live with that though, thanks

that's a bummer, but its a relief it's not a problem on my end! yeah i hope it gets added as sketching feels much better in sai/clip studio, thanks
as a side note, thanks a lot for your brush pack, it's a great brush pack!
